OMRON Healthcare, the Kyoto-based maker of blood-pressure monitors and other home health devices, said on June 16, 2026 that it would acquire Life Log Technology, the Tokyo company behind the AI nutrition app Calomeal, and make it a wholly owned subsidiary.

All of Life Log Technology's shareholders signed a share transfer agreement, and the transfer was scheduled to complete on June 30, 2026, according to Life Log Technology's own announcement. Neither company disclosed the price or other financial terms.

Life Log Technology's management will stay. Co-founder Shigeyuki Tanahashi remains chief executive and co-founder Kodai Aman remains chief technology officer, and both keep their board seats. OMRON Healthcare president Ayumu Okada and two other OMRON Healthcare executives, Minoru Yoshimura and Chisaki Onishi, were to join the board. Chief financial officer Shinichiro Kosuge was to leave the board but stay on as a senior executive officer.

What Life Log Technology built

Life Log Technology was founded in February 2016 and is based in Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, with a second office in Miyazaki. Its staff include registered dietitians, engineers, data scientists and AI researchers.

Calomeal is a diet, exercise and weight management app. Users photograph their meals and the app's AI estimates calories and 28 nutrients from the image. The company says the app had more than 6.7 million users in Japan as of June 2026 and has built up an archive of more than 1.7 billion meal records, which it also uses for dietary guidance, university research, product development and marketing.

Tanahashi has said the idea came from his own health. "Calomeal was born from my own experience of managing a chronic health condition," he said in OMRON's announcement.

Why OMRON is buying

OMRON Healthcare runs OMRON connect, an app that collects readings such as blood pressure, weight and body composition from its connected devices. The app is used in 137 countries and regions and has been downloaded more than 18 million times.

OMRON said it wants to combine those vital signs with Life Log Technology's nutrition data and AI expertise to build new digital health services for individuals, families and healthcare professionals, such as disease-prevention programmes tailored to each user. The purchase supports the digital health business in OMRON Healthcare's long-term strategy, called Shaping the Future 2030.

"This latest acquisition represents an important step in making digital health a more integrated part of everyday life," said Okada, OMRON Healthcare's president and chief executive.

From partners to parent and subsidiary

The two companies signed a business alliance in April 2023 and linked Calomeal with OMRON connect, so that users in Japan could see blood pressure and body composition next to their meals and lifestyle data. The aim at the time was to strengthen services that help prevent chronic disease. In 2025 they began testing jointly developed features inside Calomeal in beta.

OMRON said full ownership would speed up the development and launch of those services. Tanahashi said the company would keep working toward a society in which more people can manage their own health, as a leading provider of services that help people know themselves and record their data.

OMRON Healthcare is based in Muko, Kyoto. Its OMRON connect app lets owners of its connected devices manage readings such as blood pressure and weight on a smartphone. Life Log Technology described the transaction as taking its digital health business to the next stage by merging vital data with meal data, and said the planned services would draw on both companies' data.

What is not known

Neither company disclosed Life Log Technology's funding history, revenue or headcount in its announcement, and neither said how much OMRON Healthcare paid. Life Log Technology also did not say whether Calomeal's brand or pricing would change after the transfer.
