Placer.ai hires Jigso's founders and AI team as the Tel Aviv startup winds down

Or Shani and Tomer Naveh, who earlier took advertising AI company Albert.ai public, are bringing the team behind their second startup to Placer.ai to help turn its foot-traffic data into alerts and recommendations.

Placer.ai, the US location analytics company, has hired the co-founders of Tel Aviv AI startup Jigso, Or Shani and Tomer Naveh, together with the group of AI specialists they built up at the company. Placer.ai announced the move on October 29, 2026, in a statement datelined Tel Aviv and Los Altos, California, where Placer.ai is based.

Terms were not disclosed. According to Ynetnews, the announcement gave no figure for how many Jigso employees are moving to Placer.ai and said nothing about any financial arrangement. Commercial Observer reported that the founders were bringing several Jigso colleagues with them and, in an updated version of its story, that Jigso was winding down as a separate company.

At Placer.ai, Naveh becomes vice president of R&D for a product area the company calls AI Actions, and Shani takes a business development role as executive in residence, CTech reported. The team will work alongside Placer.ai's existing AI staff and leadership.

What Jigso built

Jigso came out of stealth in March 2023 with $7.5 million in seed funding, CTech reported at the time, presenting its product as a generative AI assistant meant to cut down the distractions employees face from work apps, dashboards, messages and email.

Placer.ai's announcement described the later product as an AI platform for organizations that went beyond answering questions about data. It reasoned over signals coming from a business in order to surface insights, spot anomalies and take action on them. Ynetnews reported that the platform connected to a company's enterprise systems to do that analysis.

Neither company said what will happen to the Jigso product or to any customers it had.

The founders

Shani and Naveh have spent 16 years building AI and machine learning products, according to Placer.ai. Their previous company, Albert.ai, was one of the early autonomous AI platforms for digital advertising, designed to automate decisions about ad campaigns. The founders took Albert.ai public and it was later sold. Jigso was their next venture.

Shani said he and the team saw Placer.ai's combination of proprietary data, a large customer base and a commitment to AI as an opportunity they could not turn down. He argued that strong AI depends on distinctive data, which Placer.ai has, and called the group he was bringing the best team he had worked with.

Placer.ai did not report Jigso's year of founding, the names of its investors or whether it raised money after its 2023 seed round.

Why Placer.ai wants the team

Placer.ai sells foot traffic and location data to people working in retail, commercial real estate, hospitality, economic development and related fields. It says more than 5,000 organizations use its data, including many Fortune 500 companies, and that it estimates visits to locations across the United States using machine learning applied to a panel of tens of millions of devices.

The company has been trying to move from reports that customers look up toward what it calls proactive intelligence: insights pushed to users as they emerge, flags raised in real time when activity at a location looks unusual, and recommendations on what to do next. That is close to what Jigso was building for internal business data, applied instead to Placer.ai's location data.

Noam Ben-Zvi, Placer.ai's co-founder and chief executive, said the company had been putting money into AI for years and saw the new hires as strengthening that plan. He also praised the pair's long record in applied AI. According to Commercial Observer, Ben-Zvi said conversations with Shani and Naveh showed that solving customer problems requires more than one discipline, and that they combined applied AI, big data, data science and marketing experience.

Ynetnews reported that, at Placer.ai, the team will focus on finding patterns, detecting unusual activity and generating business recommendations from location data. No timetable or new products were announced.

An acquihire, not a product deal

Placer.ai's own announcement presented the move as the founders joining the company rather than as an acquisition, and it did not mention buying Jigso's technology. Commercial Observer's account, with the founders and several staff moving over while Jigso winds down, makes it in effect an acquihire.

Placer.ai did not say whether more hires from Jigso would follow or how many people in Israel will work on the new AI effort.
