ReFa maker MTG buys Userlike, the Tokyo startup behind flower subscription service bloomee

MTG, the Nagoya beauty and fitness group behind ReFa and SIXPAD, is taking full control of a flower subscription business with about 100,000 subscribing households, and plans to put its flowers and gift know-how to work in a new ReFa cafe opening in 2027.

MTG Co., Ltd., the Japanese maker of ReFa beauty devices and SIXPAD fitness products, has agreed to buy all of User Like Inc., the Tokyo company that runs bloomee, a fresh-flower subscription service. MTG's board approved the purchase on November 4, 2026, and the two sides signed the share purchase agreement the same day, according to a timely disclosure MTG filed with the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

MTG will acquire all 673,300 issued shares of Userlike, which will become a wholly owned subsidiary. The share transfer is scheduled for November 10, 2026. MTG did not disclose the price and said the effect on its consolidated results would be minor. M&A Online lists Ryota Takei, Userlike's founder and chief executive, and other shareholders as the sellers. The filing names Takei as the largest shareholder, with 22.28%.

The filing says MTG had no capital, personnel or business ties to Userlike before the deal. It does not say whether Takei or the existing team will stay on, and it gives no change to the bloomee service.

What Userlike built

Takei founded the company in September 2014 under the name Crunch Style, and it became User Like on January 1, 2022, The Bridge reported. Its core business is bloomee, a direct-to-consumer service that delivers fresh flowers to subscribers on a recurring basis. The Bridge dates the service's launch, then called bloomee STYLE, to 2015; a January 2022 notice from investor JIC Venture Growth Investments gives 2016. The service was renamed from bloomee LIFE to bloomee in March 2021.

The business started out working with about ten florists in Tokyo and later built ties across the supply chain, from growers to wholesale markets, according to The Bridge. By early 2022 it served about 100,000 subscribing households and had shipped about 12 million flowers in total, JIC Venture Growth Investments said, describing bloomee as the largest flower subscription in Japan.

Besides subscriptions, Userlike plans and sells flower gifts and products made in collaboration with other brands, and sells in stores through retail partners, according to MTG's filing. The company is based in Shibuya, Tokyo.

The numbers

MTG's filing gives Userlike's results for the fiscal year that ended in August 2025: revenue of ¥1.92 billion (about $13 million), operating profit of ¥12 million (about $80,000) and net income of ¥4 million. Net assets stood at ¥441 million (about $2.9 million) and total assets at ¥937 million (about $6.2 million).

Userlike raised ¥800 million (about $7 million) in August 2019 and ¥2.1 billion (about $18 million) in January 2022 from Jafco Group, JIC Venture Growth Investments and Norinchukin Capital, The Bridge reported. The later round brought its total funding to ¥4.03 billion (about $35 million at the time). The company did not name the stage of that round; data provider INITIAL estimated it was equivalent to a Series D. At the time, Userlike said it would use the money to win corporate customers such as hair salons and office receptions and to hire for product development and marketing.

Why MTG is buying

MTG, which is listed on the TSE Growth market and based in Nagoya, sells beauty, health and fitness products under brands including ReFa, SIXPAD and ReD as part of a group vision it calls VITAL LIFE. In its filing, the company said it wants to combine its product development, brand marketing and sales channels, which include flagship stores, beauty salons, hotels and online shops, with Userlike's customer base and its experience in planning gift and subscription services.

One aim is gift demand: MTG wants to develop sets that pair its own products with flowers, M&A Online reported. The filing also links the deal to MTG PARK, a site MTG plans to open in Nagoya in spring 2027 that will include the first ReFa CAFE, designed around the idea of a bouquet. MTG said it will consider how to use Userlike's flower and gift know-how and its digital channels to customers there.

MTG's earlier deals

Userlike is the latest in a string of purchases by MTG. M&A Online listed its 2025 acquisition of Kirala, a water-server and beauty-device business, for ¥3.912 billion (about $26 million), and its 2024 purchase of JST, a package-tour company, through a share exchange. MTG sold its own water-server business to Manrakuan in 2020.

Unlike those deals, the bloomee purchase gives MTG a recurring-revenue consumer business with an established subscriber base, rather than another hardware line. MTG did not say how it will measure the deal's success or whether bloomee will be sold through its stores before MTG PARK opens.
